OAC Welcomes New Canada Research Chair
September 23, 2009
The sustainability of Canada’s northern wetlands, lakes and freshwater reservoirs is a research priority for Dr. Christian Blodau who joined OAC as a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Environmental Geology and Biogeochemistry, effective September 1.
Based in the School of Environmental Sciences, Blodau is conducting research that will contribute to the understanding of element cycling, in particular carbon, nutrients and toxic trace elements, in these aquatic ecosystems under conditions of climate and land use change.
Recognized as an exceptional emerging researcher, Blodau recently headed the Research Station for Chemical Limnology as senior lecturer at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. In this position, he published some 50 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, secured more than one million Euros in research funding from both German and European research agencies, and received several invitations to present his research as key note speaker at international conferences.
Blodau’s appointment brings to nine the number of Canada Research Chairs hosted by OAC.
