Climate Change and the Implications for Plant Science - Early Bird Registration Closing April 15

April 13, 2011

Join the world’s scientific leaders as they examine the influence of climate change on agriculture, food production and security in a symposium at the University of Guelph on Tuesday June 7 through Thursday June 9, 2011.

Over two days of speaker sessions and a third of hands-on workshops, the best researchers and scientists in the world will explore and discuss the implications of climate change, shifting rainfall patterns, the migration of invasive plants and the potential for new weeds, insects and diseases afflicting food and fodder crops.

The keynote speaker is Stephen Lewis, Companion of the Order of Canada, whose work with the UN on human rights, social justice and international development has been acknowledged as among the most influential in the world.

Scientists from CSIRO (Australia’s national science agency), Rothamsted Research  (the largest agricultural research centre in the UK and probably the oldest in the world), NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, Bayer CropScience, Oxford University, and Oregon State University will join colleagues from OAC’s Department of Plant Agriculture and the School of Environmental Science to examine existing and developing strategies for the agricultural industry and provide leadership and solutions for this important issue.

This symposium is being presented by the University of Guelph’s Office of Open Learning, OAC’s Department of Plant Agriculture, the School of Environmental Sciences, and CropLife Canada.
