OMAFRA-funded HQP program provides support for graduate students – APPLY NOW

January 29, 2010

The OMAFRA-University of Guelph HQP Scholarship Program provides direct financial support for graduate students in research programs that conform to the themes and priorities outlined in the 2008-2012 OMAFRA-University of Guelph agreement.

Students who began their graduate studies in Fall 2009 or Winter 2010, as well as students who will begin in Summer or Fall 2010, are eligible to apply. The scholarship requires a joint application from the student and the faculty advisor; scholarships for successful applicants will be paid through the students’ departmental accounting system.

Designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of graduate students to improve their competitiveness and readiness for public and private sector employment, the HQP scholarship program includes additional training opportunities for successful applicants:

  • Students funded through the HQP program will complete an additional, two-semester course - The Integration of Science and Business in Agrifood Systems - which provides exposure to various aspects of business practices, commercialization and the impact of agrifood industries on society in general.
  • Students will undertake a one-semester work/job shadowing exercise at an off-campus location. This work semester may be with the corporate sponsor of the research program, with OMAFRA at one of their locations within Ontario or at other mutually agreed upon business or government sites.

The deadline for applications is March 15, 2010.

Criteria for assessment will be quality of student activity to date, research activities that mirror OMAFRA priorities, secure research funding for thesis degrees and faculty CV/activity.
