New Chair for Animal & Poultry Science

Andy Robinson, associate professor and graduate coordinator in Animal & Poultry Science (APS), began a five-year term as chair of APS as of March 1, 2009. 

Robinson's research is focused on livestock genetic improvement, with a specialization in swine and more recently fish. He is a member of the Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock, a research group affiliated with APS to conduct genetics research on numerous species of animals, including aquaculture, beef, dairy, poultry and swine. 

An OAC alumnus, Robinson holds a BSc and MSc from the U of G, along with a PhD from Cornell University.  Robinson joined the U of G in 2000 as assistant professor in Animal & Poultry Science.  Previously, heserved as an adjunct faculty member in the livestock improvement industry connection. 

“This new position will provide an opportunity to pay forward to the next generation the many positive experiences and influences APS has had on me and my career,” says Robinson.   

Robinson and his wife, Chris, with daughter, Alex, and son, Matthew, operate a small hobby farm outside Cambridge.  Their 1840 vintage stone barn has become home to several pleasure horses, along with some donkeys that are the foundation of their miniature donkey breeding herd.
