Putting Animal Welfare into Practice - OAC Public Lecture
March 5, 2007
The OAC Public Lecture Series continues on Wednesday, March 7, when Prof.
Tina Widowski, Director of the Colonel K.L. Campbell Centre for the Study of
Animal Welfare (CSAW) at the University of Guelph discusses ongoing efforts
to promote animal welfare.
Founded in 1989 as a unique academic forum, CSAW includes faculty from
various disciplines across the University, including animal and poultry
science, veterinary medicine, psychology, and philosophy. Overall, the
centre's goal is to improve animal welfare through discussion, research and
education.
According to Widowski, Guelph scientists have been tackling important animal
welfare problems for decades, with research ranging from fundamental
questions about what animals feel and think to more practical issues such as
managing pain or designing animal housing. In this lecture, she will
highlight how the work of CSAW's Associated Faculty continues to promote
the welfare of farm, laboratory and companion animals.
