Global Supply Chains, Standards and the Poor - OAC Public Lecture

The Fall 2007 session of OAC’s public lecture series continues on Thursday, November 1, with the Kenneth R. Farrell Farrell Distinguished Public Policy Lectureship.
This year’s lecture will feature Professor Johan Swinnen from the Center for Transition Economics at the University of Leuven (KUL) in Belgium, who will discuss the impact of recent restructuring in the global agri-food industry on existing supply chains and on local producers in developing and transition countries.

This event is open to the public: there is no charge for admission. OVC Lifetime Learning Centre is located just off Gordon Street between College Avenue and Stone Road: access via McGilvary Road. Parking is available directly adjacent to the building; there is no charge for parking after 5:00 p.m.

About the Speaker:
Johan Swinnen is a professor of development economics and director of the LICOS Center for Transition Economics at the University of Leuven in Belgium, a senior research fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies, Brussels, and coordinator of the European Network of Agricultural and Rural Policy Research Institutes. Previous roles include lead economist at the World Bank and economic advisor to the European Commission. Prof. Swinnen holds a PhD from Cornell University and has published extensively on institutional reform, globalization, agriculture and development.

The Farrell Lectures feature distinguished speakers on current and emerging public policy issues related to food, agriculture, rural communities, natural resource use and/or environmental quality in Canada and beyond.
