Focus on Innovation - OAC Public Lecture

The Fall 2007 session of OAC’s public lecture series kicks off on Wednesday, September 26th with this year's Agrologist in Residence public lecture. The annual residency program is designed to promote the profession of agrology, and is presented by OAC's Student Federation (SFOAC) in conjunction with the Ontario Institute of Agrologists. This year’s program will focus on the theme of Innovation in Agriculture: Opportunity for Distinction.
Members of the University community and the general public are invited to attend a public lecture by the 2007 Agrologists-in-Residence: Dr. John Kelly, Executive Director of MaRS Landing and Claudia Escandon, Articling Agrologist.
Setting Canada to Lead the World in Agriculture and Food Innovation

An informal reception, with an opportunity to meet the speakers, will follow immediately after the lecture.
This event is open to the public: there is no charge for admission. OVC Lifetime Learning Centre is located just off Gordon Street between College Avenue and Stone Road: access via McGilvary Road. Parking is available directly adjacent to the building; there is no charge for parking after 5:00 p.m.

About the Speakers:
Dr. John Kelly, the first Executive Director of MaRS Landing, has a wealth of experience in both private and public sectors and has held various positions with start-ups and multinational companies, including Land O'Lakes, Ralston Purina, Rhone-Poulenc Canada and Aventis CropSciences as well as the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. In his current role, Kelly works to connect agriculture and food,veterinary and rural-related discoveries with medical, scientific and health advances in Ontario by removing barriers togrowth and improving access to tools and information.
Claudia Escandon, this year’s Articling Agrologist, is originally from Colombia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and an MBA in Marketing. Escandon has many years of agri-food industry experience, serving in the roles of Senior Brand Manager, New Product Marketing Manager and Consultant in Colombia. Since coming to Canada in 2004, she has worked as a Marketing Consultant in the health industry as well as the fresh cut flower market. Escandon is the first Internationally Educated Professional Agrologist Program candidate to serve on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Institute of Agrologists.

The OAC Public Lecture Series features distinguished speakers on topical issues related to agriculture, food, the environment and rural communities in Canada and around the world. The series promotes better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of rapid change and global connectivity. Developed with support from the alumni and friends of OAC, these lectures are provided free of charge for the University community and the public.
