Convocation Celebrates Promising Scholars and Distinguished Service
June 12, 2008
More than 660 degrees, diplomas and certificates were conferred upon OAC students at convocation ceremonies held at the Guelph campus on June 12, and the regional campuses at Ridgetown on May 30, Alfred on May 24, and Kemptville on May 23.
Thanks to the generosity and commitment of alumni, community organizations, businesses and individuals, financial awards surpassing a total of $108,000 acknowledged the academic excellence, leadership and community spirit of exemplary graduating students across OAC.
At the Guelph ceremony, retired OAC professor, Sandy Warley, was bestowed the Lincoln Alexander Medal of Distinguished Service, a tribute to an individual who has played a pivotal role in the functioning of the institution and influenced the quality of academic life. Warley came to Guelph in 1970 as chair of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension Education, and remains one of the strongest advocates for his discipline, OAC and the University.
