U of G Volunteers Honoured with Winegard Awards

March 31, 2011

Three outstanding volunteers from the University of Guelph received 2011 Dr. William Winegard Exemplary Volunteer Involvement Awards today from the United Way of Guelph and Wellington and the Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington. Now in their fifth year, the awards highlight volunteerism by members of the U of G community.

Award recipients are Prof. Cynthia Scott-Dupree, School of Environmental Sciences; Jocelyn Wessels, a research assistant in the Department of Biomedical Sciences; and fourth-year student Jordan Thompson. They were selected from a pool of nominees by Winegard and representatives of the University, the United Way and the Volunteer Centre.

“With their generosity, Cynthia, Jocelyn and Jordan are wonderful examples of how volunteers from the University community make real, meaningful contributions to the City of Guelph and Wellington County,” said Ken Dardano, the United Way’s executive director.

Scott-Dupree was recognized for her longtime contributions to the Special Olympics as head coach of the Fergus Phantoms Special Olympics Swim Team.
